Honorary Consulate General of the Republic of Latvia - in Jakarta


The Honorary Consulate General of the Republic of Latvia in Jakarta was established in December 2007 with the appointment of Mr Ayub Dwi Pranata Junus as the Honorary Consul, who later became the Honorary Consul-General in 2018.


Born in 1964 in Manado, North Sulawesi, Indonesia, Mr Junus spent his childhood in Manado and studied at the University of Sam Ratulangi before moving to London to pursue higher education. He obtained a professional diploma from Central London College in 1987 and then pursued a Postgraduate Diploma in Port and Shipping Administration at Cardiff University in 1988. He later received a Master of Science in International Shipping from the University of Plymouth in 1990.


He is a chartered member of the UK's professional body, the Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport. He is pursuing a doctoral degree at the School of Strategic and Global Studies at the University of Indonesia and aims to complete it by the end of 2024.


Mr Junus is the local partner of the Bernhard Schulte Group of Hamburg for their businesses in Indonesia. He is also an entrepreneur with businesses in ship and port services, freight and logistics services, travel and tourism services, VIP protection services, trade and distribution, and information technology services under his holding company, PT. Junus Internasional.


As the Honorary Consul-General of the Republic of Latvia, Mr Junus performs symbolic and consular functions for Latvia under the 1963 Vienna Convention on Consular Relations and other diplomatic and consular service laws and regulations.


In recognition of his contributions to promoting political and economic cooperation between Latvia and Indonesia and his substantial consular support for Latvian nationals, Mr Junus was awarded the Latvian Foreign Minister's Certificate of Merit in June 2016. In 2017, he received the Award of Merit from the World Federation of Consuls (FICAC) for his dedication and contribution to the organization.


Mr Junus also serves as the Representative of the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) for Indonesia, the Founder and Vice Chairman of the European-Asian Chamber of Commerce (EACC), the Vice-Chairman of the East Asian Regional Committee of the World Federation of Consuls (FICAC), the Chairman of the North Sulawesi Province Tourism Promotion Board (BPPD Prov. Sulut), and the Chairman of the Diakonia Foundation of the Protestant Church in Western Indonesia for its 323 congregations (Yadia GPIB).


In addition to his professional responsibilities, Mr Junus is involved in his ethnic community group of Minahasa to conserve its cultural heritage. He is also a Deacon of the Protestant Church in Western Indonesia (GPIB).


Mr Junus is married and has one daughter, and resides in Jakarta.
